We launched Dell Aarambh to address and tackle the issue of PC penetration in India. Aarambh, a pan-India PC for Education initiative, was engineered to enhance learning for parents, teachers, and children, using the power of technology. We aimed to revolutionize the perception, usage, and computer education regarding PCs across India.
Measuring impact
Through the Kantar report, we measured if the program drove higher relevance and PC desirability amongst teachers and principals. We conducted structured interviews with a test group that attended the training and a control group that did not.
We also took into account app wise usage, with 100% of teachers owning a smartphone, and 66% of schools having a smart class facility and 15 PCs on average.
The training
8 out of 10 teachers found the content to be simple, structured, effective, and clear. They wanted the frequency of the training to go up to every 3 months, with 8 out of 10 teachers being comfortable with online training.
Change in perception
The attitude towards PCs has significantly improved, with teachers now using computers and smartboards for self-learning and preparing class lessons.
92% of trained teachers think PCs play a positive role in education, with 68% of trained teachers proficient with computers. 83% of the control group found PCs to be relevant.
Impact of the training
Teachers are now interested in using PCs independently to create study material, deliver concepts effectively through examples and AVs, and connect with students for remote collaboration, which enhanced among small city trained teachers.
The usage of PCs has diversified to creating content lesson plans, giving assignments, connecting with students, and using smartboards. Teachers with an initial negative perception have also become more proficient with the computer.
A PC-centric future
Teachers have begun using the PC independently (37%), with teachers believing they have 100% attendance during smart classes.
With a holistic change in the education industry, and widespread acceptance from teachers, students, and principals, we eagerly look towards driving change in the times ahead.
