The Future Ready Child Has These Critical Skills

"The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country".

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru[1]

Wiser words have never been said. This Children’s Day, take some time to map out the skills your child needs to be “future ready”.

Does your child show a keen interest in writing? Or is your little one struggling with Maths?

Take today to reflect and make a plan to arm your child with these critical skills:

1) Cognitive (Reading, Writing, Numerical)

Including advanced literacy and writing, quantitative and statistical skills, critical thinking, and complex information processing - every child needs to get the basics right before anything else. The fact is if your child has a solid foundation, your little superstar is all set to pick up study concepts faster and retain them much longer than just till the exam.

2) Emotional + Social

The ability to speak one’s mind, set and attain goals and most importantly take failures as learnings to move on is essential to make a mark and stand out in the workplace. Often, a child needs a little extra attention to really reach the potential that’s just waiting to come out. A PC tool such as Todoist or Asana will help your child set goals that are actionable and more importantly doable: a win-win.

3) Tech

The new-age careers of the future are all enabled by technology, so get your little ones used to using a PC and the rest will follow.

This includes typing fast, being good at all the essential processing software such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel and being mindful. This includes knowing what to post on social media, protecting oneself online and being aware of the latest tech (which could be a potential career option for your child).

If there’s one thing that every child struggles with, it’s moving away from rote learning. You know it, your child knows it - to really remember everything, one has to understand every single concept and its connections with others. The biggest advantage of moving away from rote learning is that it will improve your child’s relationship with learning in the long term. That’s just the Children’s Day treat your child needs! :)
