“Teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions.”
– Unknown.
What makes a teacher great? A parent would say, it would be someone who brings out their child’s academic potential on a consistent basis and to their best capability. On the other hand, a student would say a great teacher is someone who puts the fun in daily learning and actually helps them understand and remember concepts no matter how complicated.
So, what makes a good teacher – great?
1. They Have Goals
When you set a goal, you have a long-term vision. Motivation and action follow naturally. By setting high expectations you’re giving yourself an edge and a realistic sense of direction.
2. They Prepare for Each Class
What’s a goal without an action plan? Just a dream! This is why lesson-planning is one of the most pivotal part of teaching. It is like a dress rehearsal before the actual performance.

3. They Listen
This is something that we are prone to ignore. We just hear and don’t actually listen. Years of studies have shown that teachers who actually take the effort to build a relationship with their students by engaging in conversation and taking an interest in what they have to say and the questions they ask – have a better performing class and engaged students.
4. They Connect Their Teaching to Real Life
This is where the PC plays a major role. A PC literally brings learning to life, courtesy of interactive and readily-available study resources such as presentations, videos, infographics, educational games and so on.
5. They’re Lifelong Learners
No matter where you’re in your teaching career, you must continue reading up and staying up to date on the subject matter. In fact, you can go a step further and read around your subject or something completely new to give you a different perspective on things. Not only will you feel intellectually stimulated but you’ll be able to appreciate the opportunities that come your way.
All of this ties to #DigitalLearning, wherein you make the most of technology, including PCs, to give the best of learning to your students.
Aarambh is a pan-India PC for Education initiative engineered to enhance learning using the power of technology; it is designed to help parents, teachers and children find firm footing in Digital India. This initiative seeks to connect parents, teachers and students and provide them the necessary training so that they can better utilise the PC for learning, both at school and at home.
